Introduction:

Holmcroft Surgery provides a wide range of services and clinics for our patients. These are described below:

Child Health Surveillance including
     Immunisations:

We offer a programme of child development checks and immunisations with the help of the Health Visitors.

Chiropody Services:

A weekly NHS clinic run by First Community Health is held at the Surgery for people with specific medical problems. The referral must be made by a doctor.

Chronic Disease Management Clinics:

We offer a number of nurse led clinics for the follow-up of several chronic diseases. Our aim is that anyone with these conditions will be seen at least once a year in such a clinic to allow a comprehensive review of their condition.

Contraception & Family Planning:

Many of our Nurses are trained to offer advice on Contraception. Dr Sian Davis a special interest in treating sexually transmitted infections. Several doctors can fit IUDs (coils).

Cryotheraphy (Wart Clinic):

This is a Nurse run clinic held every 3 weeks on a Wednesday afternoon for the treatment of warts and some other skin conditions. A doctor must refer you to this clinic.

Diabetic Nurse Specialist:

Runs fortnightly clinics at the surgery.

District Nursing Services:

First Community Health provides the District Nursing Service. They are not based in the Surgery but visit the Practice daily to pick up new referrals. If you need a service provided by the District Nurse please contact reception.

Health Visitors:

Hold weekly clinics here at the surgery.

Heart Failure Nurse:

Visits the surgery once a month.

Health Trainer Service:

Visits the surgery each week.

MacMillan Nursing:

We work closely with the team of MacMillan Nurses and District Nurses to provide care for patients with terminal illness.

Maternity Services:

Maternity care is provided by the Community Midwives who run an antenatal clinic at the Surgery on Thursday mornings.

Mental Health Services:

The psychiatric nurses of the Community Mental Health Team carry out assessments at the Surgery following referral by the doctors. A monthly follow-up clinic is run at the Surgery, by the hospital psychiatrists.

Minor Surgery:

Dr Barnes runs a minor surgery service on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. He currently carries out over 120 minor operations and 160 vasectomies each year.

Nurse Practitioner Clinic:

The Aims of the Nurse Practitioner Clinic are:

  • To provide a “same day” appointment for patients seeking urgent non life threatening treatment.
  • More choice for patient’s thus increasing patient satisfaction.
  • Ensures patients receive appropriate access to treatment.

General Information:

  • Patients over the age of 14 years will be offered a Nurse Practitioner appointment.
  • The receptionist may ask the nature of the illness to ensure the patients sees the appropriate healthcare professional.
  • The Nurse Practitioner is able to prescribe. We will be monitoring demand for these appointments.
  • Feedback is most welcome.

Physiotherapy:

We have a Physiotherapist who visits the surgery on a weekly basis.

Travel Clinics:

Our practice nurses offer a comprehensive advice and vaccination service for travelling abroad. Please initially speak to reception to give details of your proposed travel plans.

Some travel vaccinations are not available on the NHS but can be provided. Charges are available from reception.

Non-NHS Services:

We provide a number of services not covered by the NHS. Appointments for these must be booked via reception. A scale of charges is available at reception. Services include:

  • Yellow fever vaccination.
  • Some travel vaccinations.
  • HGV and PSV medical examinations.
  • Medical examinations for Insurance, employment or other purposes.

Withdrawal of Repeat Prescriptions by Phone:

Since September 2011 we no longer accepts requests for medication on the phone. We regret having to withdraw this service but we were concerned about the safety of this system and the blocking of the Surgery telephone lines.

A bicycle rack has been fitted between the Surgery and the Chemist. This will help patients who want to keep fit and have some exercise.
